They probably do the same thing I do. Blow off work by playing Madden Mobile.

There is no way they ever play this game or even casually watch the NFL. I'm convinced they know nothing about football going in, which makes sense. Computer nerds weren't huge football fans when I was growing up. This is how we end up with a football game with ice guys and fire guys like some fantasy RPG. 100 bucks says next year's game has spells instead of boosters/reducers. Isn't that all boosters/reducers are? Spells. "Cast this spell and your opponent is -2 speed but you need enough magic power to cast it." These guys don't want a football game. They want to play Dungeons and Dragons.

This is sadly so true, the nerds didn’t play sport either where I grew up.

The wizard QB passes to the elf WR who is tackled by the troll playing CB.

This is how we get the yard. Some computer programmer that never played football with the exception of flag street style football one summer and he says, "I remember that being pretty cool. The other guys are working on a NFL Blitz style game. Maybe we should too." They are forgetting the fact that the only reason other companies are working on arcade style football games is their exclusivity rights to sim style games, which is all anybody really wants. A good sim. They think they're going to get younger and hipper with the yard? Bunch of silly clothing and dance moves. Do they think they're going to be Fortnite? Football isn't Fortnite. You can attract casual gamers to a FPS with bright graphics and fluff but you don't attract a player to a football game with spongebob. Casual gamers don't play football games. Only people that like football. I don't think the devs get this because thet don't like football. They like some Fairies and Wizards stuff.

Another example. Overdrive. Tell me that isn't the brainchild of some developer that never really got into football as much as he got into fantasy football. Guys that are really into football aren't the guys with computer science degrees. Nor are they the guys with MBAs the devs report to. So that's working against them. Then when you try to create a revenue stream it all blows up. They're trying all these things, power and such, instead of working on creating a good game people will want to spend on. How money money do you think went into Overdrive? The yard? How much went into writing yard dialogue because that's what kids like these days. Stories.

100% correct, if the game itself is actually good you don’t need the spin offs with bells and whistles all over it. I hated OD with a passion as it had zero to do with football, The Yard at least we weren’t made to play like OD, so it just isn’t on my radar.

Make an engaging NFL game and you don’t need all that faff round the edges such as OD and yard.

It is like the developers want to re-invent the wheel. Leave it alone EA as the wheel works, now just go away and make a good game based on the NFL, that is all.

I remember playing Madden Mobile 15-18 and saying to myself a fantasy point version of this game would be amazing. /s

The Yard I kinda get, console has a mode called Superstar KO! I thought that is what we were getting, an NFL Street kinda game. After 5 minutes of playing I'm convinced they don't know anything about football. Having a player break 7 tackles in a row is pretty cool, Beast Quake is one of my all time favorite runs. I don't wanna see it every time I'm playing defense. You hold a team to 4th and 30 just to watch a 150 pounder player shrug off 250 pound defenders.

Close, but no way they play this game or even like football
