We can debate about Golden Tickets all day. I'm of the view that whoever is lucky enough to pull one should make whoever they want, however they want. That said, I hope we get at least ONE absolutely GREAT Golden Ticket quarterback, as that is the position where a properly-made GT can make the biggest difference.
Now, I didn't pull a GT. I'm a proud member of the "3K Club." But if I did, here's how I'd make a quarterback...
GT Michael Vick
Yeah, yeah, yeah. I know he'll get an Ultimate Legends card. But he's a Scrambler archetype, which really limits his effectiveness and the Ability Points cost of the best Abilities. I could make a PERFECT Michael Vick. At the outset, he'd have stock 99 Speed, Acceleration, and Agility (and maybe even Change of Direction as well). I'd then give him the following five buckets of Abilities:
Field General -- Hot Route Master for 2 AP Field General -- Inside Deadeye for 1 AP Field General -- Conductor for 1 AP Scrambler -- Escape Artist for 2 AP Strong Arm -- Gunslinger for 2 AP
That's 8 AP for an amazing collection of Abilities. I could be talked into taking out one of the three Field General buckets for an Improvisor bucket to open up the possibility of QB Playmaker or Dashing/Roaming Deadeye (which could become more viable if EA boosts our AP again this year, say to 20 on each side of the ball), but I would prefer that third Field General slot for the likes of Conductor, Identifier, Protected, Threat Detector, or Fearless. The set-up above is what I would start with.
Then I'd have three skill ratings that I could "boost." This is interesting. I would consider boosting the following:
Medium Throw Accuracy -- it's 87 on his 96 OVR card, so I think this is a must. I throw a ton of medium passes, and if EA ever fixes Inside Deadeye so it doesn't work all over the field, I'll need my Vick to hit those corners and posts. Carrying -- it's 78 on his OVR card, and boosting it would really help him in the open field when you scramble or use designed QB runs. Throw Under Pressure -- it's 90 on his 96 OVR card, and getting it all the way up could definitely help. Break Tackle -- it's 83 on his 96 OVR card, so if you want to use him in a run/RPO scheme, this would be great.
I believe the three I'd pick are Medium Throw Accuracy, Carrying, and Throw Under Pressure. He'll still be slippery and break some tackles, so I don't think I'd boost that.
Thoughts? In my view, quarterback is the only MUST HAVE position for Golden Tickets due to the AP manipulation. So I hope someone makes Vick or someone similar with this general plan...
