I routinely run 46, and move Taylor/Mack to the DE positions and slide Everson Griffen PU to DT with MJG. I always put Griffen on soy when facing a scrambling QB, and he keeps them in check and has also gotten a few picks!
I spy Taylor at RE. It's not foolproof though. I use Lamar and when I see a d-line spy I often run option and draw plays and completely tear up the spy's zone.
Enough people have already said it but ill say it again.. Taylor's all you need for spy.. fast enough he won't get beat and with his height and jump he's gotten a nice amount of picks in spy. I run nickel 335wide or 245 pretty much exclusively and I keep him at RE, as long as he's not the outside rusher I spy him.
D-ends in a 3-4 typically r not there to pressure the qb. In a 3-4 that is the olb job. I’m using a slime now in a 4-6 with re UL abraham dt1 PU clowney dt2 UL taylor le PU von against mobile qbs I will spy 1 of my dts. Having 90+ speed and good blockshed and pow/fin moves on all 4 has been very disruptive
I Spy whichever DE is not opposite of the RB since most people run left out of shotgun if RB is right of QB and vice versa
Quote from Jaysick >> I dont ever put my MLBs on spy. Not saying its a bad thing but I dont want to give up that players zone for a spy. I always use someone pass rushing, from a 4 man rush. Usually I put my rushing LB ( I run 3-4) on spy if I use one. Ive used PU Mack for a while with UP, and its worked pretty well especially against guys like Vick who like to roll out.
I do that too ;)
I usually spy GT Aaron Donald, who's my 3-4 nose tackle (I got him NAT from the Loyalty Token set). He gets a lot of sacks and forces a lot of fumbles on guys who want to try to scramble or roll their QBs out. He's also athletic enough to get to TE's or slots running drag routes over the middle. He doesn't get any picks, but he bats down passes pretty well.

This. I rarely spy a lb. I always use a lineman. I prefer to spy a dt just need one with some speed. My fav dt to spy this year was opp BO. My new fav is I play Ted at end and he moves in to dt in my Nickle d and he is a beast. He has even gotten me some picks with his 6 foot 7 ass lol
I was 3-3-5 heavy when I started and had my Hybrid OLB/DE as the spy so that my run integrity isn't compromised nor is my ability to cover the middle of the field.
Also DL just can't keep up with QBs at this point.
I use a variety of Spies to keep the offense guessing. I'll use the RE on some plays, LE on other plays. I'll also call a cover 3 blitz, but switch one of the blitzers to a spy. I sometimes will call contain with a DT spy, but my DTs aren't all that athletic, so they can get burned by a scrambler with decent stick skills.
I have RE Bo Jackson just to spy Vick. Works well.
I sub in DT Greene at LE and Too Tall at RE and spy Too Tall when needed while in 3-4. Spy's end up with a decent number of picks, there a good number of ends now that are 6'4"+ with 88+ speed that will do OK. Too Tall is of course very tall, and guys like Watt and Peppers have great catching stats. (Pepper's hot hands doesn't work as a spy, hot hands requires the player to be usered from the start). 97 Clowney (DE) and Suh 96-99 (DT), Bo 95 (DT) have freak athleticism for the positions.
the best spy on the game is Replay Julius Peppers...fast, tall, catch, jump..

I run 3-4 a lot as well and what I typically do is spy the DE on the wide side of the field and also QB contain. Once the QB gets outside of the pocket click the right thumbstick in to send your spy and a lot of times it can cause a sack or bad throw.

Thank you for your perspectives fellas. I think I will drop some coin and get GT Floyd and Replay Peppers and try them both out in this role.
In 3-4 with the nose on the field I spy MJG most of the time or I will switch it to an end just to keep them guessing. If I choose and end it often is the off pressure side guy from where I am bringing heat because they will scramble away from the blitz .
I have had had no issues with scrambling QBs
I use chubb as my spy fixing to get Abraham and will probably use him as spy with that 93 speed
In H2H, I will typically use the Ravens defensive playbook and will typically run 3-4 with some 4-4 mixed in. When I face mobile QB's I will typically place one of my MLBs in a spy (Ray Lewis) and user the other (GT Shazier). My Run Defense is fairly stout. But I keep my D lIne pass rush on "Balanced" and notice that I rarely get pressure from UL Taylor at RE, UL Mean Joe at DT1, or PH Brandon Graham at LE unless I jump on them and user them manually.
So my question is whether I should change my spy to one of the D line players? Is anyone doing this routinely? Do you spy your DT1 or one of your defensive ends? Which player should I use? Price is really no object so I can go out and buy anyone that would be best at this role. Was thinking of buying GT Leonard Floyd and subbing him in at the start of the game... or at least situationally.
Would appreciate any feedback.
