How to set Slot WR and use Slot Apprentice Routes

I put Irvin there, some raiders plays are insane with him as Slot Apprentice.
in your team builder, go to the specialists tab. There’s a slot WR position. But Andre Reed at number one there.
Hey,
I got Andre Reed specially for Slot Apprentice. My problem is that hes not in the Slot WR Position it seems, because I cant acces the 4 new Routes. I set him as WR 3, 2 and even at 1 but every play where I need him in the Slot, hes not there.
And do I need a special Qb ability to acces the routes? I got PU Andrew Luck and I want to keep him.
