Free-Form Passing

I need your help with free-form passing. I am constantly getting perfect passing accuracy but my WR completely misses the ball. Am I not throwing the ball at the right time? Am I throwing the ball to a place the WR can’t catch it? Or is this something that just happens based on QB. I just played a head to head game and this happened to me like 8-9 times. Kinda hard to win when I’m wiffing on wide open WRs. Thank you all!

Perfect passing accuracy means that the ball is going exactly where the ball is intended to go. With free form passing you can aim the ball outside of the receivers catch radius.

If you have all the visual stuff on for passing(which you should), the grey circle is the receivers catch radius (it's smaller on short passes and on deeper balls you'll see that grey circle get bigger). Leading the ball normally with just the left stick will always stay inside that radius assuming it's an "accurate" pass.

When you use freeform passing, depending on your setting you can move the reticle slightly outside of this radius, or WAY outside (Near or Far in settings I believe).

When passes are outside that catch radius it becomes much more difficult for the receiver to come down with the ball depending on where you place the ball with freeform passing. If someone is wide open, never use freeform passing.

Now, times when you'll WANT to use freeform passing are also important:

Leading a receiver that extra bit if he's barely got a step on someone.

Throwing the ball in a space that only your receiver has a chance of catching it.

Forcing a receiver to change his route to come down with the ball (for example, if someone is on a vert you can free form pass it to the inside and it can make the receiver cut inside and do more of a post route).

TLDR: Don't use freeform passing unless you're trying to do something specific. Trying to use freeform passing on every play is gonna result in a lot of bad passes.
