Wow that actually worked for you? I have the same issue and it was reported on the EA forums that someone else did this same thing but it didn't fix the problem. So your persona was not showing the correct ID at all but an old ID. Was that ID linked to your EA account at all on the EA website? The ID showing for me is NOT linked on the EA website and does not show up at all. Only in the app do I see and obviously it does not work.
Just a PSA for the app users. Have a brand new problem (for me) today. When I search my recent/saved searches it freezes the app and you have to restart it. Also when you delete all recent searches they come back on restart. I can still search just can't use the recent searches at the bottom.
Same thing was happening to me with PS4/PS5. App seems to have an issue with my PS5 persona but not the PS4.
Thought this might be helpful to some as I dealt with the issue since the last update on the companion app and saw a few people post about it too. My companion app was using an old PSN id when i logged in and wouldn't allow me to use a new one. I contacted ea help today and they were able to disconnect the old psn id from the ea account. The app now brings up the right psn and I'm able to use it again. Hope this helps someone.
