Free MUT Points ?
- Update 2 - Wow. I'm sure I won't shock anyone here but EA gave no sh*ts. Got a call back. Supposedly the top of the chain. Couldn't answer any of my legitimate gotcha questions. Didn't care. Wouldn't budge. I'm not trying to scam anyone. They still get their $60. Was told they have the ability to credit his MUT21 account with the points AND they have the ability to take his MUT 20 gift card codes and mark them as used. But would they? Nope. I kept my cool until the end, didn't even start the condescending smart a** questions until he started blatantly wanting off the phone. Just super weak. Sorry for the rant. I could keep going. Big thanks to all the solid MUT folks for the help! If you find yourself playing a child that only runs three plays (Gonzo on a underneath crossing route, Odell deep out/in, or a screen to Reggie Bush) maybe don't crush him too bad.
-- UPDATE -- I had to wait until this morning to conduct my customer support marathon.
Phone support is brutal, couldn't understand much of it and it sounded like she was outside in a windstorm. After 53 minutes and multiple "I'm asking my manager" and "We can't do anything because it's a different game" and "contact the retailer for a refund".... I get disconnected mid-hold.
Chat rep seemed to be sympathetic. I got called "mate" a bunch and they had no concept of capitalization or punctuation but he seemed to want to help. After a lot of back and forth he escalated it to his manager as well and told me his manager would email me when a decision was made... the second our chat ends, I get an email from his "manager" saying the same thing, "these are different versions of the game and we are unable to do anything" automated response.
I responded to that email with a few paragraphs of my best work, we'll see what happens there.
I called back about an hour ago, went through the process again only this time had the 56 minute "disconnection" from earlier in my back pocket. Actually got passed up the "team" as they called it, ended up with a guy that was somewhat normal and understood the situation. He said he's gonna ask around and will give me a shout after lunch but not to get my hopes up.
I'm not super confident but the guy I'm waiting on was the only rep from the entire morning that gave me the vibe that he knew what was going on. I'm pretty sure the others I spoke to didn't know what Madden was and definitely couldn't comprehend the issue at hand. Looks like I'm SOL. I'll probably just buy him $60 worth of points and try to get rid of these Madden 20 codes somehow.

Not knowing your financial situation, that's what I would do. Spending 60 bucks to avoid dealing with ea would be worth it. I have an 8 year old and I couldn't fathom telling him the gift was no good. I'd also not tell grandma because she'd probably feel terrible too. Sorry you had to go through this.
Yeah that's what I'm thinking. There's no way grandma would even comprehend what happened and it would taint the cool-grandma aura she's owning. It's worth $60 for us to go through the EA support gauntlet but it's also worth $60 to not have to give the kiddo a gift and then tell him it's worth nothing. We tried!

@qbertlogo got some good karma coming his way! I just heard a yelp from the back room. Geeking out bc he got 100k for an 81. I heard him tell one of his buddies it must be to make up for the glitch yesterday? He was quickly corrected and informed that it was a bday present from a solid MUT community dude! Thanks again homie! Made a kiddo's night!
I think N808D is on the right track. I'm just going to call in the morning and work some magic. It'll be worth the hassle and I don't mind spending time getting the run around while I mess with my fantasy lineups. I'll update
I will chip in 100k coin for a low elite in MAdden 21. DM me player. Sorry to hear this. That many points in m20 will buy alot of packs. I don't want anything back BTW. Not sure what to do with gift card.

My best advice would be to not "trade" anyone anything here or elsewhere, there really are a lot of scammers here. Call EA support and start there. Im sure there is someway that they (or Microsoft) can transfer your $60 worth of virtual currency from a gift card to the proper game
I'm seeing a super helpful MUT community but others are saying not to trust anyone on here and 90% are scammers haha. Which is it?!? In all seriousness, thanks for the help folks! I'll update on how it goes with EA CS. I'll probably stay away from the chargeback route. Mainly because I don't have the heart to tell her she got the wrong thing over $60 and obviously it was a valid transaction. Fighting the CC company on that would be a little much for her.
Now how do MHC work in regards to converting them to coins/points/training?
Did your grandma use her credit card because what you could do is call her credit card company and do a charge back. Once your grandma gets her refund then you could purchase 21 mut points?.

I sympathize. I honestly wish I was in a position to help. I have experienced miracles with ea. Has he cashed them in? That could be your only saving grace here. Get a hold of EA and you’re going to have to explain that same story and express the ambiguity of someone like a grandmother purchasing such a gift. Really push it, explain - how is his grandmother suppose to differentiate between madden 20 and 21 when all that was there was madden 20. If you have the gift receipt that’s more power. Be honest, be understanding, don’t get mad and climb your way up to a CS department that can help you. I’m actually pretty good with this, I wish I could truly help you. If you do have questions ask. Atitsthevito is partially correct. I have more input that I think might help. Message me if you want, I’m not trying to scam. At least I don’t believe so.
I’m curious to know how it goes, if you run into a roadblock I might know a way to get around. I can’t promise anything, expect the worse and if you have entered the scratch off code, that’s a great first step.

Thanks for the advice! I went to Target with the receipts and they told me they couldn't help. We definitely haven't cashed it in or scratched any code. The activation code is on the actual Target receipt. You just have to dig deeper.

It will ask you some questions. The problem isn't with target, your money is in the pockets of essentially Microsoft and sorf of EA but not really (does that make sense)?
Speaking with online tech support is worthless.
You need to speak on the phone with Microsoft. Reiterate your story, explain that for your mom picking out such a gift it becomes convoluted and ambiguous. It's 2020 now, so that "should" be the game. How ways she suppose to know that it's Madden 21? Sarcasm is easy to get to, but refrain.
Emphasis on that will be helpful, explain target only had those and only those and they were rude. You tried to return, you explained you haven't used the codes and hopefully they're not scratch off and any chance you get to make xbox feel awesome, do that. Thank them for their "time and efforts" be happy to be placed on hold. Don't get mad, you may be on hold a while. I hope you live on the east coast because their phone assistance starts at 6am-5pm PT (I am going to assume that's Party Time or Pacific Standard Time).
It sounds like you have the card type gifts if I read everything properly. Call at 6am if you're able to.

this is where you might get help (a phone number). If they're able to redistribute a 25 character gift, they might be able to switch it from Madden 20 to 21. Sign in to microsoft. It'll ask you what your problem is. Go to Subscription and Billing and then I can't redeem code during phone hours they'll give you access to a number to call and bypass a lot. Point is, people on the phone have power.
Try not to lose your temper, be understanding of their side but what you're going through is the most important because it's for your son and your mom. If you get stuck, say "I understand, may I speak to your manager. Not only do I have praise for you that I'd like to express. I need to see this through and do everything I can to try and make this right. Not only for my son but I want to make sure my mom is able to give her grandson the gift she intended."

Its going to be tough. I would look to resell on E-Bay or Amazon. It may take some time as well. You could all so try calling EA, explaining the situation and seeing if they would be able to help him out. They probably won't but to me, it's worth a 15 minute phone call or chat. I appreciate it! Wish I was lying and wish I knew how MHC worked haha. He probably does. And I can assure you this is a same day account because I created it to ask this question. Like I said, I've lurked for a while. Love checking and getting little man pumped if one of our favorite guys is getting released. Dads on here know Madden is a great way to bond with an 11 year old. Just frustrating when you're trying to school them on Ray Lewis or Randy Moss and these little turds would rather grab a weak Odell because of a one handed catch they see on YouTube from years ago... :::sigh :::

First post! Longtime lurker! I'm sure this has happened many times and if I need to post to a different forum, let me know. Sweet 83 year old grandma got my son an amazing bday present in the form of 3 - MUT Cards at 2200 points a piece ($60) BUT they're for Madden 20 which he does not have. He is losing his mind having this gold in his hand and not being able to use them! Options? Trade? Call Microsoft? Her intentions were A+ but grandmas gonna grandma... Target won't refund obviously and I'm sure EA could care less. Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!
