Learn to ignore these. Meaningless for gameplay.
Richard Seymour, a slow, 300+ lb lineman with no coverage ability, has higher overalls at outside linebacker than at defensive tackle, for example.
lol wow, that's ridiculous. i ignor it but its not easy, i like seeing a high OVR number, makes me feel better about myself hahaha
Doesn't seem to make much difference, I run Dawkins at SS at 90 and he plays very solid despite losing about +3 from FS. And every once in awhile the secondary position gets a higher overall, try shifting Seau to OLB! He runs to 95 on my squad.

This is dumb anyway. Like Aaron Donald. He isn't a 'defensive end". He's been a 3 and 5 technique his entire career. He should be labeled as an interior defensive lineman. Edge players (LT, Khalil Mack, Etc) should be labeled as edge players. They use the term defensive end as a traditional 4 - 3 end. A 4 - 3 end is equivalent to an OLB in a 3 - 4. Aaron Donald is neither of those. It's dumb that his overall drops when you kick him inside.
i agree, but judging from all these comments, apparently the OVR is just a number the game kicks out based off the "important" thresholds for that position, doesn't actually change how he plays. very stupid how they mislabel player positions but thankfully it doesn't really matter in the end.
Some players will get an OVR increase, too. Like last year Urlacher was a 98 at MLB with chems. At LOLB he was a 99. I’m sure there are others
no, they did that to discourage people from manipulating their lineups.
We're dang lucky that we don't really got position locks like 2k

They play the same. My 87 LG Larry Allen is a 91 at RG. I start him at LG and he is still a stud. Overall isn’t as important as stats in certain areas that meet certain thresholds
The OVR is based on the stats for the position I think, so the stats stay the same but oop may be lower OVR because that position would require different stat placement to maintain the same OVR. For example an OLB with high power/finesse moves and high block shedding may stay the same OVR at defensive end.
Overall is just a number spit out by some formula. The formula is different for each position which is why the overall changes for a player at different positions. The stats are still the stats though.
say you have a player that can play a secondary position... when you move them to that position it shows their OVR decrease by a significant amount normally..... does this actually effect the way they play or their stats at all? or did madden just put that in the game to discourage people from manipulating their lineups? someone please shed some light on this.... thank you
