Tips for a beginner?

Hi Guys,

I am relatively new to the Madden scene as I am from the UK and this game is miles better than FIFA haha.

Was just looking for tips as I try to get good at the game? I've got to level 40 I think so far and have managed to rack up around 600k...

I literally know nothing about playbooks or ways to play the game or certain sets I should do so any tips to help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi mate, from UK too! I was new to Madden about 5 years ago, and spent the first 2 years on Madden starting off with the Skills Trainer. It'll give you a starting level of defensive and offensive concepts (how to read what sort of formation the defence is in, and what routes will beat that defense). When to run, when to pass. It'll give you a base understanding that you can then continue to grow. I was also lucky to play a lot of online games vs a friend to continue understanding it, so try and do that if u can. However it is not an easy game, it'll take a couple of years to fully understand it, minimum, but that's what makes it so exciting for me... learning and improving every year.

Hiya mate! UK represent hahaha where can I find the skills trainer? Sounds like something I need tbh none of my friends like the NFL so I don't think they will wanna play haha, do you have any player suggestions on who I could pick up?

JayMack52

It's not in mut - it's in the main menu. OK no probs - just play as many H2H games (not MUT, but maybe Draft champions) try out the different playbooks for different teams to see what works. No player suggestions, not played any games this year myself barr Solos, but you can try some out when you play H2H /draft champs and see what works for you?

mrxbaldness

Ah right okay, I'll have a look tomorrow then when the game is out... is the gameplay similar in those modes to MUT?

JayMack52

Yes :) draft champions won't have superstar abilities however.

Based on your level and coins...I need to follow your plan. I think you are off to a great start and reaching out for recommendations is the exact right thing to do. My best advice: Make sound card decisions (yep...that is obvious). Don't need to buy the latest and greatest at the highest price, but if you wait to long for the price to drop then the usefulness of that card will be diminished. Have fun with it and enjoy the grind...this is only my second full season of MUT and I really enjoy it. Good luck with the season and know the community is here if you need anything.

I thinks that's also gonna be something I need to be careful of, I don't know the market too well so I don't know the best times to sell/buy... I just wanna know if there are any certain players I should pick up or any sets that are worth doing also. Thanks for your help mate!

General AH rule...buy on Saturday and Sell on Tuesday and Wednesday. Saturday they traditionally release legend packs and folks buy a ton driving the market down. Come Tuesday the market dries up and price goes up. I'm not a big fan of sets...I know coin can be made, but I try and use coin to get who I want and spend the time playing the game. I would recommend the theme builder sets and get a semi theme team going so you can get those team boosts. Only power up cards you are confident will remain on your team, many will spend time powering up the latest and greatest card only to sell them off a few weeks later. Get online and play H2H in seasons and WL. Don't worry about losing...you have 25 WL games...if you go 1-24 that is one win more than 0-0. There are rewards for wins and no punishment for losses. Anything free...take it. This is a super fun mode and the international representation of this community is great as I have actually learned a ton about different cultures.

mrxbaldness

Ah right that sounds easy enough hahaha are the Theme Builders not fairly expensive though? I feel like the only power ups I am going to use all year are Honey Badger, Khalil Mack and Lamar Jackson tbh, and I might try some online games but I don't want to rage too much and I am really not sure if I would even be able to get a win in 25 hahaha

Your last paragraph tells me you’re going to be really good at Mut- best advice is treat this like you would the legend of Zelda- find an exploit that works on you tube and don’t differentiate

mrxbaldness

Based on what mate? Just running with Lamar? I feel like its really OP as he doesn't seem to fumble that much as what he did last year so far... are there any certain players I should be getting in my team?

55studwell

I’m not playing but after watching DK play corner route cheese still works so good pass blocking RT and LT are important- it also looks like MLB’s have lead in their pants so it’s important to be able to exploit this and beat them to the edge

Ello mate, fancy day? Seems like ya got yaself in a bit of a bind over the gameplay. No worries Ol’ chap. Just keep poundin’ away at it then! Practice makes perfect mother always says. Cheerio then!

There is some great content on Youtube already: Huddle.gg, ZanMadden, KingWolfe, ActualCC, etc. Go check them out.

mrxbaldness

Hi Mate, thanks for the reply. I've been watching ActualCC quite a lot but I feel like he might be on the higher end of the game asI watched him last year and he seemed to get top100 in weekend league and stuff but I really enjoy his content. I watch Zirks, Swift and Gmia quite a lot as well. I just want to know which players to use and little tips on what to do to play better tbh... When I play I run with my Lamar quite a lot too so is there any certain plays/playbooks or players I should use to help that?

Sounds like you're new to the NFL and not just Madden. I'm from the UK and have been following the NFL for 10 years and playing Madden about the same.

If you don't understand the NFL rules, that would be a good place to start as otherwise the whole game won't make sense to you. It's easy to grind solos and play around with the player cards but you'd have no chance in a full game. So where to start depends on your level of experience and what you want to get out of the game. Playing the tutorials and start to understand the different positions and rules would be a good starting point. Also watching a lot of games outside of Madden would be good, do you have a team you follow?

mrxbaldness

Hi mate, thanks for the reply. I'm fairly new to the NFL but I understand all the basic rules and how the game is played. I've been following the Chiefs mostly because of Pat Mahomes and Honey Badger... I just want to get to a level where I can play some online games and win half of my games or somewhere to that level... I played Madden towards the end of the year last year and I really enjoyed just playing solo challenges tbh but it would be good to play online at some point too... I think I struggle with which plays to make and how to defend properly atm but most of the solos are relatively simple to me atm

xLEEx82x

Best bet is probably finding your way through the Chiefs playbook, pick plays on offence and defence based on positioning rather than randomly, and get used to knowing what each does. Like maybe play a whole match out of Shotgun or a whole match out of Cover 3 defence and get familiar with what's available within the playbook and find some go-to plays for each position on the field. I still struggle all the time on understanding my opponents set up and adjusting on the fly, but I haven't played a lot online because it just frustrates me!

mrxbaldness

Yeah I think that is it, I don't understand the difference between most of the formations, should I be usering certain players? I've been trying to use Honey Badger but don't know who I should be covering or if he's even the right person to use haha. I guess it's all a big learning curve but I just want to understand what plays to pick at certain times... I've found myself passing to players just ahead of the line of scrimmage and finding success doing that... Also, I can see that there is obviously the player with the red route and the others have yellow ones, should I be aiming for the ones with the red routes more? Sorry I'm such a noob hahaha

dsopko91

Most new people start by using their user as a D Lineman. I’d recommend LB. get used to using a LB before adjusting to a safety. This will help you get use to recognition of a run or pass and the inside routes of the TE/Slot. Practice is needed so don’t get frustrated and just keep getting experience from each game. The more you win the harder the competition

mrxbaldness

Hi mate, thanks for the reply. Do you recommend any good LBs? Should I be using the MUT Master guy? I've been thinking about picking up Khalil Mack but don't know if it's worth upgrading my offence or defence first?
