Thanks for everyones reply.
Answers vary from 88-94 so 90-92 would be a fair ball park .
What coin amount would that need ?
Lol at the post above saying above 90 it's all skill.. If you are looking for skill you have to play mut draft or Salary cap
Anyway, it depends on where your good players are.. you can have a 91-92 ovr team and beat a 95 ovr team if your best players are to your strength, if you throw a bunch you can be weak at guard/HB/Fullback but have stud WRs/tackles/QB.. and vice versa for the run, can have low ovr high run block across the board and be successful.. defense there are budget beasts out there as long as you have 91 zone corners and high blockshed linemen/linebackers you can do ok
90 Ovr. after that it's all skill.
If you're asking, you're prob not skilled enough.
I would say at this point, if you don't average 91 minimum, it's going to be a struggle. My O-line from left to right is 94-92-93-96-97, and they got abused by someone who had 98 JJ Watt and 97 Joe Greene. I lost the game 3-2.
My team OVR is 94, and if I played all 25 games in WL, I'd probably get about 15 wins. If I lose to someone who has a 91 OVR team or lower, they usually have a ton of the OOP players (HB Vick, TE Clark, LB Bo, etc.) The OOP players are a good example of lower rated players who can fit into many schemes easily because their physical abilities are higher than the typical players at the position that a decent user could exploit. Their OVRs are driven down because they lack position specific skills, but that's negated by usering them. For instance, lower AWR or ZCV of a LB won't really penalize you if you user them.
I run a 92 OVR minimal money spent team (bought the lvl 40 legends pack) and stay decently competitive in weekend league. You probably won't hit Elite tier without spending some serious cash or a huge time investment because, as others have said, there is a legitimate difference in ability between a 92 and 95 OVR team to execute plays that take advantage of the meta that can get pretty frustrating. I still play every weekend and average about 15 wins. It can be a lot of fun to go up against god squads who clearly bought their team but have very little skill and beat up on them.
I have a 94 team and consistently get 15-17 wins. Got 19 this last WL league so you don’t need a 96-97 overall team to do it.
I agree with the 88+ also. Make sure you have good players in the right positions and you will be fine. Receivers, corners, safeties, and linebackers are the most important positions to me and I play with an 89 overall and have no problem. You will be just fine with base elites at offensive line. The cheap Randall Cunningham with go deep chemistry makes all the throws for me. Get the 90 LT for DE and the cheap Reggie white with read and react and put him at DT.
Sadly, if you don't want to roll with the meta and do what everyone else does, you'll probably need a higher OVR team to be able to execute those plays. My team right now sits at 95 OVR and there are plays and defenses that I ran just as well when I had a 92 OVR team because they are very cheesy and trick the AI unless you know how to counter them. However, there are plays that I can run now that would not be successful if I had a lower OVR team.
Higher is better this year but if you master a few ultra effective plays and keep up with the meta I bet you could roll with a 92.
94, it is better to have an overall team in case you make mistakes they will bail you out.

Honestly? I've never tried WL but can you really be competitive w/ a team under 90? Is that only if you're extremely good?
There's some really good bargain players out there, as long as they fit into your scheme and you have some decent plays you can be successful

I’d definitely say a 92 overall team would still be competitive online but you have to know what you’re doing. Check out my team if you want. My offense is pretty crap and mostly rely o a strong defense. I find that if you have a strong defense then you can compete with anybody. Not just good players but knowing how to read you opponents formations, making adjustments and anticipating what’s gonna happen. A lot of these clowns run the same handful of plays the saw on YouTube so it’s pretty easy to know what’s coming just need to stop it.
I’m noticing that running the ball is getting harder or people are watching more YouTube because the stretch isn’t working as well anymore. I’m rolling with a 92 overall team right now, 91 offense and 93 defense. Haven’t had any issues getting to 11 wins but usually like to stop there cause it gets boring. Last week went 11-2 and this week just finished 11-5. So I lost 3 more games then last week which I think is cause teams are getting stronger. Lot of teams I faced had some loaded squads. Think most of those 5 loses game against dudes who spam the same two plays all game or stacked 95+ overall team with a lot of the new cards. Did beat a good chunk of these god squads I saw too. Dudes with like 98 for all three of their top cards. Beat most of the dudes with 98 brady I noticed.
Yeah I can get to 15 wins with a 93 team, but its getting harder. The people who pay for their squads are getting crazy and it feels like they're extending the gap. Those 97-98 players can win games on their own in some instances.
I’d also like to add that when I play guys with a 95+ team whether they are good or not I always seem to get beat so you might want to build something stronger or weaker because you are probably a stronger player
And like pdcameron said there are a a lot of guys out there just running the 1-3 play popular stuff they see on YouTube can be a bit of a cheese fest

Thanks for clicking on this thread. I have been away from MUT since 16 becuase of effort involved in maintaining the team . I have heard with the new Weekend League mode , the rewards are good enough to maintain and grow the team WITHOUT playing solos or grinding the H, which i hate .
If this is true , what ovr team do you need to be competitive and how much madden coin would it cost? As I have a job , I am happy to invest a small amount of cash for my hobby (in packs or however) to get me started, as lomg as I dont need to keep spending money and can maintain by playing weekend league .
Any advice will be appreciated ,
Good luck to you sir. Unfortunately I do not know how much it costs to watch every you tube video to figure out the exact same defense and offense you will play against each week. It is super exciting though when you blow up these copycats though and that is priceless!
