Can You Build A Good Team Without Spending Money?

I've done some searching and know that this question comes up a lot. Opinions seem to vary. I briefly played Madden 16 on ps3 after not owning a madden game in many years (maybe ps2 days). I thought the idea of MUT was great. However after seeing the growth of the mode and seeing how much some people are spending, I fear that EA will purposely make it harder to build a team without spending money.

I'm pretty excited about madden 19. If I get it at launch, it will be my first year truly trying to build my MUT. Can a decent team be built without spending any money and not having to devote several hours each day grinding? Does EA make the challenges nearly impossible to complete so you will give in and buy packs? Also, do people that spend more get better pack pulls? Or is it legitimately random? I would like to believe that I would have as good of a chance in a pack pull (opening packs sporadically) as someone who spends money on packs weekly.

Yes i have done it for years...i ended this year with a 99, as i do every year....its very easy to do if u do it right....i also end with several million coins which i invest in MHC at the end of each year to sell the next year for coins to start out the new MUT

Quote from betaflash00 >> I was NMS this year.  You have to grind, a lot.  The better your team gets, the faster you can rip through solos.  But in the beginning, it's definitely a grind, and very boring.  However, the good news is, once you can stockpile a decent amount of bank, go to the AH and learn to buy/sell players like a stock market.  You'll make good money that way.

Once I had a decent amount of coin, I only did solos that would give me a high-level auctionable card at the end.  Some solos only give you NATS, while others only get you started working towards a player.  Those I didn't bother with.  I just did the solos like Easter and Boss Battles that for sure gave me a high ovr card I could auction.  (Boss Battles you had to build NAT cards that you could trade for auctionable cards).

I started mid February and this is the team I built before I sold it after the last WL: https://www.muthead.com/18/team-builder/950855

Zero money spent although it was aided by the help of a member who helped me with some AH coin making methods in the last 2 weeks before I sold it off.

This year was easy to build a 99 w/o money spent or MHC.

If you feel like you can't keep up with the OP cards and chems, you can mostly avoid Seasons and WL and utilize the various safe spaces to play in - Franchise, MUT Drafts and Salary Cap.  Or stack coins for long portions of the season and then splurge for a decent team when the market seems low.

Anyway, it's possible but you gotta grind.  And grinding can be pretty boring/ time-consuming.

You don't have to spend hours a day, everyday... But you do need to spend time.

I spent well over 700 bucks on M16. Never again. NMS on both 17 and 18 and it's much more rewarding than the defeated feeling of dropping loads of cash only for a CHANCE to MAYBE get cards that are able to be sniped in the AH with a little time and effort.

Not really mate :D Instead wait for dips in the market. For example, if you buy a card the day it's released you'll likely be paying more.

You can use the Muthead watchlist to keep an eye on prices :)

Just buy what you want, when you want it :)

Same as most everyone else posting. This was my first year dedicating time to MUT and ended up with a 98 Overall. All 99 Offense and Defense but 98 for Kicker and Punter.  Keep a few weeks behind the top cards and you can fetch them later for a fraction of the cost. Farm some accounts and sell, sell, sell to build up your main Squad. Takes time and if you don't want to grind well then NMS isn't for you.

This is great to hear. I'm especially glad to hear that 18 was a little easier than years before. Maybe I was just terrible, but 16 seemed to be pretty tough for me (granted I didn't play for an extended amount of time). I hope 19 is as easy as 18 was.

I was mostly worried that greed would cause EA to make it harder for NMSers to lure you into spending by making challenges longer and harder to complete. It sounds like this isn't the case.

Learn to work the auction house, do your solo challenges, and do your objectives. Try to stick with players that you can auction when you upgrade. If you do that, it is pretty easy to have a really good no money spent team.

If you're willing to put in the hours to grind and work the AH it can be done easily.  Just depends on your dedication and patience. I put a lot of time in this year to set myself up for M19 with MHC to allow me the flexibility to do the promo's I want and still have a competitive team.

Plus I got an xbox one x in January it made the grind a bit easier by cutting the loading time down ~50%

Depends on how much time you want to invest. I spent early on but I stopped most spending aside from small hitter transactions since Christmas and kept my team current with cards with a lot of farming. Daily objectives and working the promos adds up.

You can most certainly build a great team without spending money but you do have to put in the time.

Staubach12

Yes but it will take a lot of time to gain coins from gameplay and working the auction house

Ineedmoney504

Yea it’s just bout the grind
