How important is mobility for a QB in this game ?

Hey guys,

With the news of 98 Eli coming to the game, i've seen some outcry because he is "another slow QB", even though his stats look actually good. It made me wonder how important is it to have mobility on a QB. Is it better to have a dual threat QB or an elite pocket-passer ? Personnally, I like to have a QB who can do a bit of both, passing while in the pocket or moving out, like Jared Goff or Aaron Rodgers, but what are your opinions on that ?

Im usually a balanced guy.  I like staying in the pocket but also like having the ability to run.  Ive used multi demensional passers (Newton, Cunningham, Marriotta, Rodgers) until two weeks ago when I made Brees.  He forces me to stay in the pocket and make a throw.  I have been sacked a little more but have also had a lot more big plays develop because I could not scramble.  With defenses speed increasing, even the faster QBs seem to have a problem breaking contain so I just said Ill stay in the pocket.  Now if I get a chance to get a Golden Ticket Cam, im all in.

Mobility is key. Even with elite blockers and nobody getting open, it’s only a matter of time before the o-line starts collapsing. It also depends on your receivers overall traits. With a well-rounded receiver, you wouldn’t have any problem passing it.

I like to have a little mobility but dont need a Vick or Mariota type... it can definitely get you out of trouble but it can cause it to

Speedy4451

My preference is Moon.  He can make every throw and move enough to get out of trouble

For me it is a must. I would not be as effective if my qb was not mobile but I guess it depends on play style.

People swear up and down you have to have mobility cause all QBs throw the same now but then they get pissed when they’re QB misses an easy pass. I’ve seen mike vick overthrow flats in the backfield. I have had honors Brady for quite a while now and he’s probably made 1 bad pass out of hundreds and he was under pressure at the time I believe. If you’re willing to sacrifice accuracy for mobility go for it. But don’t listen to the people trying to say “all qb’s throw the same because of thresholds” because it’s just not true. Traits play a huge factor as well.

You just need enough to extend plays.

Switched from Luck to Marino and I value Marino’s all 99 throwing stats than Luck with 90 sped and 96 THP. Just my personal preference. While I did win a few games with Lucks legs I’ve won more with Marino’s 99 accuracy. He will fit the ball in the tiniest windows and he’s Mobil enough to slide out of the pocket and throw a rope. I love my new Marino.

With how broken the blocking AI is in this game, you need some mobility from your QB. At this point in the year, I wouldn't use anyone who doesn't at least have 80 speed.

I like Pocket Passers. Someone will get open and if you start sending heavy pressure i will cut you up with slants, drags, ins and quick outs.

Riiiiight. Throwing thresholds lol.

Really scheme dependent and comfort. I know many players that have to have a mobile QB it's what they have grown use to and others who have non mobile QBs are are just fine with it. There is no ideal one. Ur opponents(if they are decent) will defend around what you have either way.

How important is breathing in real life? Mobility is the most important thing with QBs now that mostly all new QBs hit the thresholds you need s guy who can run. I don’t run a lot but if no ones open or pressures coming it’s nice to have that option.

3-5 times a game, mobility can make the ultimate difference. I use Luck - best of both worlds.

For me personally and how I scheme an offence, I need a mobile, explosive QB. I've always ran the ball, I heavily use a mix of read option and play action. I do feel as though for a viable MUT QB you do need a decent amount of mobility like A Rod or Luck even if it's not Vick level explosiveness. Although there are people out there who can dot you up from the pocket and are strong pocket passers (I am not one of these guys) just even having the option to scramble, extend a play or make a solid gain on the ground is worth the trade off for throwing accuracy.

In my opinion it changes how your opponent plays and schemes against you as that's what I do. If i play someone rocking say Brady or Marino I never worry about having to defend the QB scramble as it's pretty much a non factor. While even if it's not Vick and I see a mobile QB i will usually always set my defense up differently, as I am aware that their QB can be a major factor even with all receivers and targets locked down.

I prefer a pocket passer I don’t run with my qb and when I have tried using faster qbs I look to run with them more instead of checking a 2nd or 3rd route I’ll still take off if nothing is open for 4-5 yards to move the chains but it’s not something I look for

DeuceQuattro

Unless you have great pocket presence, elite pass blocking & know how to adjust pass protection your QB needs to be mobile enough to escape the pocket.  If I see a statue QB I’m sending 5-6 every time.  Most players don’t have the patience for a pocket passer.

Thresholds makes it to where every QB throws the same. Speed bails you out when you have nobody open.
