Only in madden you can get away with safeties playing corner

And have zero dropoff in coverage makes no sense

killiqanisland

If Safety’s could effectively play Corner long term they would play Corner IRL.

Because zone is prevalent and I think Madden should do away with drop coverage altogether but that’s another story for another day.

Linebackers, Corners and run stuffing Defensive Tackles are useless honestly.

Adams, Taylor, Tillman, Minkah, Derwin, Lott and McCourty with LT, Donald, Page and White rushing the passer is all you need.

I think a big part of the reason is that zone is so much better than man in this game so safeties don't have to try and cover a WR man to man

Actually, don't see it as a controversial subject....kind of agnostic myself...not for nor against.

My post was simply to point out the flaw in your original post that said "Only in Madden..." when in fact it happens in the real NFL.

I started the thread guy, you can’t convince me that let’s say for sake of argument honey badger can cover Hopkins or micheal Thomas if we are using current players on the outside for an entire game man to man coverage. I’m not talking about in the slot corner position I’m talking outside wide. I’ll even give you example I just had. I have Marvin Harrison man on man against both Sean Taylor and Ed Reed on him and for majority of the game was lock down. I hit a few plays and won but it was comical that they could stay with him majority of the game.

Many versatile safeties will come down  in the slot. See it all the time. Hyde, Honey Badger, Patrick Chung to name a few. If you see a TE lined up outside they may even play outside to cover them too.

Yes Charles woodson played both lol

i think the problem is the way coverage works overall.

80 ovr LB can cover 99 everything wr's in zone. dont know if this is because LB have been 4 speed to fast globally for 4-5 years ( of safeties having no speed drop off to a cb) or if ratings dont matter enough. could also be the global speed of players being able to cover much more ground in madden than they physically can irl.

but it is bad and needs to change.

Actually, it's not unheard of in the real NFL either (not common, but not unheard of either)

You only need to go back to the Wild Card round when the Vikings were missing 2 of their CBs (M. Alexander and M. Hughes) and Safety Andrew Sendejo played Nickel CB the entire game...and they shut down Drew Brees. (Yes a lot of that had to do with the pass rush with D. Hunter and E. Griffen...but Sendejo actually played very well at CB)
