Applying fantasy football principles to Draft Champions

My immediate thought when I saw the twist of drafting a new team for tournament play is that it mirrored fantasy football. While I'm relatively new to MM, I've been sucking at playing fantasy football for a long time, in multiple leagues. And I think several principles I use when I draft each year translate to this program. At least, I'd rather have a plan that I can tweak each week instead of just drafting aimlessly, like a dog chasing cars in traffic! So, leggo...

  1. Build your team to fit your style. Determine what players are most valuable to how you run your team. I throw mainly short & PA passes, then sprinkle in strategic runs and shots downfield to my TE. So my most important positions are QB, RB, TE, FB and WR1, in that order. On defense, I consider CB1, FS, SS & MLB as most important. You don't need to quibble over the exact order really, but I would place them in tiers. With 17 draft picks and 26 spots on your team, you will have to decide where you can live with low golds,. That's easily both lines and the flex spots on defense for me.

Fantastic write-up, thanks!

Semper Gumby had me rolling! Wish I had Honor to give out. I'd give you one just for that joke!

I couldn’t agree more Chewie. I have some honor, so I’ll hook him up on your behalf. OP, thanks for all the time, effort and analysis you put into this. Well done!

Interesting ideas here... I will keep them in mind when drafting... I think this week will be pretty much a „practice“ one and then everyone knows what to expect next week...

Only thing I dont like is we cant touch the depth chart. Like safety, highest ovr goes to FS, i want my highest ovr at SS, 2nd highest ovr CB goes to CB2, I want my second highest ovr CB at CB4(Dime Spot)

First, thank you for your kind words!

As far as for the tips, I would suggest to build a plan first. Then, you watch a few youtubes and see if your "plan" works. For example, my earliest plan was to pick QB/HB/TE after 11th round (so, 7 rounds to pick 3). 2 of my youtube drafts ended up with no QB. One of them ended with no TE. So, you may want to run a few simulations before the actual draft.

also keep in mind that you can't edit your lineup after you finish drafting
