According to my math, for FTP all goals are necessary besides the two Mythic goals and the 12 Iconics goal. This adds up to 460 and allows for one hero. Second hero is only possible with a second mortgage.
I hate VS too, I simply start 5 drives every day and don't even play. I just wait for 3 minutes (you have to stay until the end, abandoned games don't count).
If you achieve all the objectives except 8 Mythics and 10 Mythics in 4 months, you only need to achieve the VS objective in 1 month (this month we have already achieved it without playing VS) to get 5 Heroes (the last month you get the 2)....being FTP.
