You could ask this about any multi-player game. In my experience 90 percent of randoms don't have or use mics in multi-player games, then 8 percent are just douches on the mic. That last 2 percent(obviously not a factual number, but it feels as such) are hard to find.
I rarely have the mic on in madden because for the most part I don't run into anyone on the mic. I don't play squads though so im not sure how active people are in the mode chat wise. On other games I'm usually using the headset but don't talk unless someone else does. I do call outs though in any shooter even if no one is listening. Seems people use mics way less often in the last few years. I'd never get in a game like destiny, for example, without the mic active.
