I agree. As I've gotten older, I just want to play a normal game. I like calling plays based on the situation or calling my defense based on the personnel you're showing. One problem with this is zone is terrible right now... This is the first MUT I've participated since 20, but I always remember zones being terrible at the beginning of the year before that and then as the year goes on, either the players become good enough to actually react or they adjust zones to actually work. So all this to say that I tend to lean more on man to man right now, although I always mostly was a heavy zone defense caller.
Zone isn't completely unusable but man is better, specifically man blitz. I just lost to a clown running a nickel man blitz all game. The key to being able to run zone though is having a good pass rush. Purples are garbage but on deep safeties it works really good against corner routes. Yellows work 25% of the time and blue flats work decent set between 0-15
my experience so far has been that the deep safeties can't cover corners... maybe my corners aren't good enough I don't know, but no matter which way I shade they suck at covering corner routes
