I use them a lot to just take the users attention. I’ll often run it with my running back, slot receiver or TE if I have a bomb I want or put a post or crosser shoved it for a low/high look.
When people mable a lot I’ll put a curl with a drag or flat route and it’ll get open there a ton against cover 3 and 4 if there are no hook routes.
Like you said very good last ditch routes but also take the opponents attention if even for just a second to get something else open.
On defense if somebody is doing it over and over from the same look I’ll man it up. That usually scares people off because acro can jump the low ball. Could also put a hook curl there too.
