They have a monopoly on the market by getting exclusive rights. It's a poor example of how true capitalism is supposed to work. Since there is no competition, EA has no incentive to try and improve the product. Sure, some people will become frustrated and opt to play other games, but for us diehard football fans we just have to shut up and take it. There needs to be more than 1 football game on the market, otherwise nothing will improve.
7 years old will still buy it, and just play the cpu and not worry about online , because they aren't allowed to do it because of the "toxic" people. And their parents are right, there are toxic people. And this was me when I was seven, sooo.
Even if that did happen that would only bring small temporary changes. Until EA loses their monopoly on NFL rights there will be no real and continuing improvements.
If there was another major gaming company that wanted to make an NFL game and pay for the licence, there would be another NFL game. Coding an 11vs11 game with coverages, receiver routes, blocking assignments, and rushing/blitzing on every play is a mess. Even basketball doesn't have a decent simulation game yet and it's a simpler game with less than half the players in the game than football.
Did you ever play or hear of Backbreaker (PS3 era)? You could design your own teams and if you spent some time you could do NFL logos. I could do the Steelers and I am pretty sure some graphic art guys could really do smoe sick stuff. Also Backbreaker had a real physics engine.

If you stop playing, and more importantly, stop buying points, they will need to change.

I agree with the coding part of your post but you are incorrect about anyone that wants to pay for the license can use the NFL players and logos.
Who is going to bid against EA though? I think people give 2K too much credit, their business tactics are not any better
