Ryan Moody (granted he’s pretty staunchly against the recent Madden products) just did a video a week or so back about this issue. Not only have they done generic faces, they’ve also made them less detailed (worse) than in previous versions going back to 17 or 18.
Lazy is probably my second guess behind they have resource constraints and are either trying to save money and time, or actual performance problems in the game with rendering high detail textures.
