Back to 4-3/46 defense

Using a 46 Normal out of a tea specific 4-3 playbook is pretty routine and the suggestions given thus far are solid.  If you plan on spending 40K to get the 46 Defense Playbook you will need to build around a Safety (Set as SS) who will be in the box and act like a hybrid linebacker/safety.  Ronnie Lott would be my prototype, but a Sean Taylor card hits hard enough to serve the purpose.  In the 46 book he'll be be in the box for the 46 Normal, 3-4 Bear, 46 Bear, and 46 Bear Under.  In a 4-3 book with 46 Normal formation (JAX, Min, etc) he'll play in the box only for the 46 normal and play as a SS for all other sets.  Remember, the 46 Defense was named specifically for the jersey number of Bears SS Doug Plank who played the hybrid role for Buddy Ryan...so that legendary 1985 Bears Defense was built around the SS and not Mike Singletary or William 'The Refrigerator" Perry.

I've tried the 46 playbook in past years, but by the time the playbook was introduced in years past the skill/spending gap was too great.  Last year the alt playbooks didn't hit MUT till week 11 and experimenting with a new style of D when everyone is working with offensive players from the Thanksgiving Promo just wasn't fun.  This year the Alt playbooks are in MUT early, so I think this might be my year to learn the wisdom of Buddy Ryan.
