OMG, I cannot believe someone else is moving to the pistol. I just did it this week. Been running Broncos all year and last year and just wanted to switch it up. I decided to give the Pistol a go. I love the formations and variety and to your point there is a lot of it. Overwhelming at times.
There is very little on the book out there as nobody really uses it I guess, but I love the fact that it has the ability to leverage your entire roster and really puts into focus FB and TEs.
Favorite formations so far are
1. Weak Flex Slot
3. Gun Bunch TE
4. Full House.
I have been lobbing a bit on these 4 to begin and I love some of the motion and things you can do out of the formations. Some deadly route combos and some stuff that is just hard af to cover.
Running is a bit trickier, but I have found a few runs out of the group of formations above to make some dents.
Loving the book and am trying to really master it like I did the Broncos book
just checking in with you. I continue to work at this playbook. Some days success far better than others, but I am loving, loving, loving the variety. It.s just unreal the amount of different plays and the set-ups you can switch into.
It’s a fun PB. my only problem, it’s a ball control offense. I find it hard to come from behind. It’s great to switch to freshen your brain and get out of the rut.
The breadth of the playbook allows it to be utilized to go up tempo and stretch the defense in ways that create gash plays. Utilizing motion from the backs and WR into different routes definitely causes matchup problems
